This reminded me of my childhood longing to ride a horse to school. Poor horse. Wonder if they bickered about who got to drive?
My father rode (bareback) one of his grandparent’s working draft horses to school on non-working days, which were rare on the farm, and a treat for them both. Hay was kept at the school house, and the horse got a nice day off in a paddock to eat and rest. Much better than slogging through the rice fields all day.
